Page 1 of 3 ONE MORE FAMILY IN VOSKEVAZ WILL COMPLETE THEIR HOUSE In 2005 the dream of Manukyans to own a house seemed to be so close whent hey were able to purchase a piece of land. Getting married in 1996 Vardan and his family were living in his parental house with his brother’s family and parents. In those 60 square meters, only love and respect that prevailed in the family, made it possible to get along in the overcrowded old house with no bathroom.
The family saved hard from Vardan’s income from wood-cutting and family’s profit from strawberries and grapes in order to buy a piece of land. Then they saved again and with the next year’s savings Vardan started to build his house with the help of his brothers. They were building with great zeal, and, had not their resources dried up after installing the covers, they would have finished the whole house in two months. They did not want to delay their move-in however, and decided to live in the unfinished house with bare walls, undone floor, no bathroom and kitchen, hopeful that they will complete the house little by little. They tried to do one type of work each year, but they realized it would take too long. Now they are very glad to be selected by Fuller Center for Housing Armenia. They will be able to finish their house before winter and maintain a warm and healthy environment for their three children. MKHITARYANS WILL NOT LIVE INSIDE BARE WALLS ANY MORE In 1999 Mushegh and Marine of Voskevaz village started their family life in Mushegh’s parental housewhere his two brothers with their families were living as well. In 2000 Mushegh started building his own house but he could only finish the basement. His wages as an electrician and the money they were getting from their land was not enough to organize construction faster. Only in 2003 was the family was able to cover the house and moved in. There was no gas, no sanitation, and no water in the house. They had to carry water from neighbor’s yard. Every year the family was putting efforts to make one more step in the construction of their house. Today they have water in the house. However the walls and the floors are not done, and there is no bathroom and a proper kitchen. The house is very humid, which adversely impacts the health of residents. Besides, it is very hard to heat it in winter.
This year Mher, the youngest son, will start going to school. His brother David is already in his third grade. Their mother Marine is very concerned about the children’s health, and is hopeful that by winter the house will be finished, and they can live in safe and healthy conditions.
